Wearing Wigs At The Airport

In the globalization today, it’s inevitable that we will take airplane a lot. But for wig wearers, going through the security check or travelling with wigs or hairpiece may not be that pleasant. The metal clips  on your wig probably will set off the metal detector and/or be spotted in the body scanner. And long-time travelling will make your wig get tangled. To ensure a pleasant trip, here are few tips and tricks you should know before you head out to the airport.

Wigs and airport security

If you are new to wigs, you might be a little nervous about going to the airport and wonder what will happen. Be assured and no big deal. You can wear wigs through security. They won’t make you take it off. They are not going to question you and interrogate you or anything like that. All that will happen is if your wig happens to have a metal clip on it. It will set off that metal detector that you go through.

Security staff will know that you have some sort of metal item in your hair and they will ask you if they can touch your hair. They will just pat your hair to make sure you are not carrying a knife of some variety in your hair. Then you are allowed to go on about your business. It is just like as if you had a hair barrette that is metal, they will do the same thing and just pat it and just let you go. They won’t make a scene and there is no embarrassment. Nothing to worry about.

If you don’t want to let other people to pat your hair, just make sure you wear a standard wig that has no metal clip. And if you do use bobby pins normally, you could take them out right before you through security and then put them back on the other side. Another thing that might be helpful would be the wig grip to help keep wigs from moving around. And it would not set off that metal detector.

Travelling with wigs

Wearing wigs at the airport may seem like a bit of a hassle. But with a few simple tips, you’ll be traveling in style in no time. When you pick out which wig to wear to your local air travel destination, there are a few factors to keep in mind: coolness, comfortability and quality.

If you are someone who gets hot easily, an open weft cap is going to suit your needs best. With spaces in the cap for breeze to pass through, you scalp will stay cool throughout your entire trip. Wearing a comfortable wig at the airport, especially if you are experiencing hair loss, will be the most important factor for you. Wear something with a double monofilament top and velvet-lined ear taps to reduce itchiness or hand tight cap to allow some stretch for comfort. In terms of quality, you don’t need to wear your most expensive remy human hair wig to the airport. Security personnel sometimes still has to touch the fiber of whatever you’re wearing. Where is something you can detangle if the back of it gets matted form hours of rubbing against cloth lined airplane seats. Synthetic fiber that is not heat friendly will be the most ideal.

One tip is to bring a carry-on sized bottle of detangling or smoothing spray. A wide tooth comb and your carry-on to smooth out your wig upon landing. Going through security is the most daunting part of wearing wigs to the airport. The thought of having to take off your wig and be searched is even more unsettling than some people’s worst nightmares. If you have the option of going through the x-ray machine, op for that as you may not have to take off your piece. When you approach the security it’s okay to politely ask the security personnel to be careful when searching your wig or that you’d like to hold it down in the back while they search underneath and through it.

When packing your wigs into a carry-on, make sure they are packed in a way that they can gently be removed if asked to do so. The rescue bag is a great way to travel with multiple wigs at once in your carry-on luggage. Hope you’ve learned a few tips on reducing the stress of wearing wigs when flying.
